“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”
Such a powerful quote! Welcome all social impact leaders!
While many social impact leaders may be walking in the same sector or area others have, every single one has their own unique path to navigate.
Social impact leadership entails guiding organisations, teams, or movements in a way that prioritises and achieves significant positive changes in society. It combines strategic thinking, ethical leadership, and a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. (Crofton 2024, Edge of Possible)
The value of having guidance and a listening ear during such a journey cannot be overemphasised. This is especially true when such support is one that has a similar lived experience and technical knowledge - cserving as a mentor and guide.
Key ways to support social impact leaders include supporting their vision and innovation, engaging in processes like systems thinking and promoting their self-care.

What WILL WE BE DOING ALL DAY?
We will dive into the following during the marathon:
The concept of Transformational Leadership: what it means for you and how to inspire, encourage innovation and be a role model – all the while ensuring that key standards are in place and implemented.
Governance and Sustainability: analysing the structures that keep the vision alive and thriving and what needs to be done if that is not in the case – in the short and long run.
Resource Mobilisation and Management: Exploring the processes, the people, networks and tools used to source, gain and manage resources in addition to how we are supporting the people and talent carrying out our vision. We will also delve into the ethical use of technology to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness.
Impact and Results Driven Management: How much are we paying attention to capturing impact and sharing this with who matters – particularly the communities we serve. What tools can we use to make our impact visible and how we acknowledge and use our wins and learning.
Last but certainly not least, we will also explore our Self-Care – how we take care of ourselves in the service of others. That means different things to different people; however how do we balance the weight of the vision with all the things we need to content with in life and ensure that we are paying attention to our mental health and wellbeing.
